Courage… is to Show not to Keep
‘A ship is safe in harbor, but that’s not what ships are for.’ —William G.T. Shedd
We all are facing difficulties in our lives like losing someone you love, getting something stolen or having the school bully on your bad side. But what sets courageous people apart from cowards is fortitude. Having the fill to go out there and face those difficulties and diffuse them with passion and strength. Having such qualities are hard thing to find. Not a lot of people can tell you straight up that they have those qualities because too many people are scared of their difficulties.
Courage is mental and moral strength to venture, persevere, and withstand danger, fear or difficulty. It suggests an ingrained capacity for meeting strain with fortitude and resilience. A person, who is mentally and physically strong, is normally found to be courageous. Courage in simple words means an act of bravery. Certainly, that is not just it. Courage takes a bigger picture of an act of bravery. It is about will plus the big word, BELIEVE. When one is courageous enough to do what is right, he earned the respect of human spirit. While some may see being courageous has to be doing a big thing, it boils down to a thing as small as saying “Sorry, I was wrong”.
Every effort and intentions need courage. Take love for example. When is the right time to profess love? Ask your inner courage. One has to believe in his or her own actions and weigh its possibilities also. Consequences of your actions have to be put in high considerations. Chances are he lives miles away from you. Will you be courageous enough to face the toils of long distance relationships? Nevertheless, many actually do end up at the altar. Again comes the word, BELIEVE.
A person possesses two types of courage, one is physical courage and other is moral or mental courage.
Physical courage encourages the man to do works of risk like rocket manufacturing, launching satellites. It encourages man to discover the other planets of the universe and all types of laborious works.
Moral or mental courage is found in man only. It enables man to select right or wrong and to act according to his will.
As moral courage is a rare virtue. By the help of moral courage he selects the right path, may it be opposite to public opinion. He may have to face many troubles for the right path he has selected.
In comparison to physical courage, moral courage is far superior. A man with a moral courage always does right under all circumstances. For the development of the society he may have to face criticism and opposition but he never bows to it.
Jesus Christ had a rare moral courage and he taught people to lead the path of truth to achieve their goal of life, but he had to face a tough opposition from the persons who were losing their strength due to his sermons.
They conspired and the son of God was crucified. But he never left the right path which he had selected.
Prophets, saints and social reformers were the targets of attacks and fury of the world for having told the people the truth. These great persons were the men of great courage.
